Police officers from the Mobile Tactical Ostensive Patrol Battalion (Rotam) arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of drug trafficking in the city of Cuiabá on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. During the operation, the authorities seized 240 doses of drugs, including marijuana and cocaine, in the Altos da Serra neighborhood after the suspect attempted to flee the scene.
The arrest happened as part of the Zero Tolerance Operation, which aims to intensify the fight against illegal drug trade in the region. Anonymous tips indicated that the suspect was selling drugs on Avenida Governador Valadares, prompting the presence of Rotam patrols in the area.
Upon noticing the police approach, the young man tried to escape through a vacant lot and sought shelter in an abandoned house nearby. However, during the chase, he dropped a backpack containing the illegal substances. In addition to the drugs, officers found two precision scales, a knife, and a roll of plastic wrap, likely used for packaging the doses for sale.
"He confessed that he lives in Várzea Grande and was selling the drugs to pay off debts with a local criminal gang."
The suspect also reported having been recently assaulted by gang members, revealing internal tensions and pressure from criminal organizations controlling drug trafficking in the area. After capture, the man was taken to the police station for the formal registration of the case and further legal procedures.
